Election Results: PBCA Returns Incumbents to Board; RPV Voters Turn Thumbs Down On Charter City

Residents of Portuguese Bend voted to return the only two candidates running for the board to their positions for another two years, at Tuesday evening's sparsely attended meeting at Ladera Linda Community Center. Tim Kelly received 100 votes, Mike Cooper received 89 votes and there was one write-in for another resident.

Meanwhile, in Tueday's RPV election, voters voiced a resounding "NO" to the idea of becoming a charter city in Tuesday's election. According to the LA City clerk's office, the vote was 4634 "no" to 1790 "yes."

Whether this is a reflection on our electorate's confidence in our city council, which was overwhelmingly in favor of the change, or simply a fear of becoming another Bell, isn't clear at this point.

What do you think?

  1. As I recall a quorum is 129, did they have that?
    100 for Tim, 89 for Cooper, that's not 129. Just a thought....

  2. There must have been proxies for quorum only, because you don't add Tim, Mike's and my one vote together to get a quorum, that is not how it works to get a quorum. Yes a message was sent that the residents are not happy with Mike and lukewarm with Tim.

I know of at least 15 households (owing multiple properties), that did not send their ballot in to vote and not for a quorum either as a sort of protest that "why bother, they make sure the votes get them in no matter what". So I am very surprised they had a quorum, i no quorum would mean they would have to hold another election. Residents are not happy, but they also feel that their voice is not heard so why bother.

The revised CC&R's are a joke, they don't enforce the existing ones, so why bother reinventing the wheel? They pick and choose who they go after, they do not go after friends within their circle. The only one who is benefiting from the Revised CC&R's is the Kelly Richardson, the Association Attorney, he has been working on these for six years, at a considerable cost to us, the members. The Architectural Standards are a joke too, you have directors and committee members in violation so how can they enforce them? Do as I say not as I do mentality.
